Director of Sustainability

Deciem is looking for a Director of Sustainability. This person will help shape Deciem's strategic sustainability initiatives and monitor our evolving best practices regarding global responsibility. What are we looking for?

Deciem is looking for a Director of Sustainability. This person will help shape Deciem's strategic sustainability initiatives and monitor our evolving best practices regarding global responsibility. Our ideal candidate is someone who is passionate, knowledgable, and has strong leadership qualities.

What would you be doing?

  • Create and clearly define DECIEM's long-term sustainability strategy and engage all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure delivery on goals
  • Assess DECIEM's current performance and offer strategic direction to create/ improve sustainability initiatives, policies, and programs across all areas of the business
  • Continuously report opportunities for improvement to key stakeholders across multiple departments globally
  • Offer support and expert opinion to the leadership team 
  • Ensure ongoing responsible practices across all business operations  
  • Monitor evolving global responsibility best practices 
  • Act as a subject matter expert and monitor global emerging environmental, social and governance regulations as well as consumer interests
  • Measuring and reporting on the effectiveness of the Company’s sustainability strategy, programs, actions and outcomes. Develop a business case to support DECIEM’s sustainability plan.
  • Serve as the leading Earth Initiatives voice for DECIEM 
  • Offer support to the Communications team where a sustainability spokesperson is required
  • Support packaging initiatives for both existing and new launches
  • Oversee and grow the Earth Initiatives team. Coach and empower members of your team through creating opportunities for skill development and career development/progression. 
  • Engage all global employees in DECIEM's vision for a human world of beauty through developing and implementing sustainability related employee engagement activities. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across multiple departments, including but not limited to, Procurement, Brand, Lab, and Design, to drive corporate responsibility platforms and communications opportunities.
  • Assist in other projects/duties, as assigned

What skills and qualifications do you need?

  • Degree or diploma required, with a focus on business, management and/or sustainability (or similar fields)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a sustainability leadership role required
  • Experience within a retail environment preferred
  • Highly effective in the areas of strategy development, planning and operational execution
  • Strong understanding of sustainability issues, measurement/reporting, and translation to industry risk, impact and opportunity
  • Demonstrates well-developed business acumen and understands how to implement/manage change
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, managing conflicting priorities and tight deadlines in a non-structured work environment
  • Strong leadership skills
