Environment Health and Safety Associate Manager

What are we looking for?

Deciem is currently seeking an Environment Health & Safety Associate Manager who will be responsible to provide health and safety support with an expert level knowledge of H&S legislation.

What would you be doing?

  • Reporting to the Head of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) this person will be responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment at the Eastside facility and Toronto-area distribution centers
  • Responds to concerns raised as part of day-to-day functioning of the facilities interacting with production employees and facility leadership
  • Ensures functioning Joint Health and Safety Committee(s) or Health and Safety Representatives, as required
  • Acts as the company contact and liaison on Environment, Health and Safety matters with regulatory authorities
  • Conducts risk assessments and inspections proactively in line with regulatory requirements and in order to develop control programs
  • Manages local EHS Management systems including records and documents to facilitate internal and external audits
  • Liaises with other key stakeholders to ensure health, safety and environment are a consideration in all projects and changes
  • Conducts and / or arranges training as required to support control programs
  • Supports accident and incident investigations
  • Develops and presents EHS metrics reflecting current business objectives
  • Develops and oversees emergency planning through procedure development, maintenance of notification systems and conducting drills
  • Monitors environmental compliance as needed – including wastewater sampling, air emission reporting
  • Ensures submission of all necessary regulatory reporting include NPRI, ChemTrac
  • Ensures maintenance of all permits including the Fire Safety Plan and Environmental Compliance Approval
  • Manages hazardous waste disposal include maintenance of HWIN registration and tracking
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What skills and qualifications do you need?

  • Knowledge of current health and safety practices, trends and requirements impacting safety
  • Strong analytical, coordination and project management skills with ability to prioritize changing and conflicting demands, meet deadlines, and stay productive under pressure
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles
  • Flexibility in adapting to change and in participating in consultative decision-making processes
  • Relevant education in OR equivalent work experience in health & safety
  • 3 - 5 years of health & safety work experience is required
