The Head of Production leads day-to-day manufacturing operations and ensures the department runs reliably and efficiently. This person is responsible to lead other team members and subordinates in their shifts to meet production targets in an efficient and cost-effective manner. What are we looking for?

The Head of Production leads day-to-day manufacturing operations and ensures the department runs reliably and efficiently. This person is responsible to lead other team members and subordinates in their shifts to meet production targets in an efficient and cost-effective manner. You would be responsible for all aspects of the department operation, including safety metrics, coordinating the operation of equipment to ensure no downtime, productivity, quality, on-time delivery and employee relations within the department.. 

What would you be doing?

  • Manage and evaluate machine resources to ensure productivity and minimal downtime
  • Oversee a workforce of 200+ employees in the production department by creating schedules for employees to ensure optimum staffing levels
  • Oversee production processes; Plan and organize production schedules; manage timeline and ensure all areas of the department are productive
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, personnel skills and training needs, department space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Work with the quality department to determine, implement and document quality control standards and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Strive to reduce expenses and increase productivity across all product lines by selecting materials for purchase, budget and forecast raw materials and labor to meet production goals
  • Ensure all employees follow company GMP policies and procedures as well as industry standard health and safety guidelines
  • Supervise and manage the work of junior staff; establish consistent schedules, breaks, and paid time off (PTO) protocol to maintain an efficient work environment.
  • Set production goals and communicate them to key personnel and staff regularly.
  • Provide motivation, support and guidance to all employees and communicate any problems or obstacles to senior management
  • Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity

What skills and qualifications do you need?

  • Proven 10+ years’ experience in manufacturing operations with at least 7 years in a management capacity a must.
  • Must have specific work experience in pharmaceutical and food industry.
  • Minimum of a Bachelors’ degree a must with lean manufacturing training and experience preferred.
  • Ability to create and monitor KPIs to accurately forecast daily/weekly/monthly production targets to meet production demands.
  • Ability to develop and introduce best-in-class master production scheduling practices through a thorough evaluation of the current planning and production processes.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical and computer skills including Microsoft Office and applicable proprietary software applications with ability to integrate new technology (ERP systems) into an existing business environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully training employees in productivity and safety
  • Must possess exceptional time and change management skills and be able to work towards tight deadlines.
  • Standard office hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends before and after schedule as needed depending on production demand.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and ESA and GMP standards and regulations preferred
  • Ability to effectively coach and mentor employees on a one-on-one basis as well as a group
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff. * Flexibility is a must.
