HR Manager (Maternity Contract)

We are currently looking for a Human Resources Manager to fill a one-year maternity leave contract. As the HR Manager you will manage both our Manufacturing/Production and Distribution facilities located in Etobicoke. Our ideal candidate has proven experience working in a manufacturing or production environment, and has knowledge in GMP standards.

What are we looking for?

We are currently looking for a Human Resources Manager to fill a one-year maternity leave contract. As the HR Manager you will manage both our Manufacturing/Production and Distribution facilities located in Etobicoke. Our ideal candidate has proven experience working in a manufacturing or production environment, and has knowledge in GMP standards.

What would you be doing?

  • Manage employee relations cases for the production and warehouse locations in Etobicoke, ON Canada. Work with Global Senior HR Manager on escalated matters.
  • Investigates employee grievances as well as cases on discrimination, harassment and other employee relations allegations in conjunction with Senior HR Manager and Director as needed.
  • Collaborate with HR team on the initiatives of creating local policies/procedures (Employee handbooks) and working with legal locally to create compliant employment agreements. Collaborate with HR Director and Senior HR Manager on these initiatives.
  • Ensuring DECIEM's policies are implemented in accordance with the company's vision, mission, and strategies as well as local labour laws.
  • Provide consulting support in areas of change management, teambuilding, conflict resolution, performance management, progressive discipline, talent management, talent acquisition and employee development.
  • Manage employee disciplinary actions and terminations as well as partner with Senior HR Manager and legal counsel when needed to assess and mitigate potential risk and exposure.
  • Work with HR Director and team on rolling out key HR transformation projects such as new process implementations, policies/procedures, etc.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process for office, production and warehouse employees including sourcing, screening, testing, interviewing, selecting candidates. Conduct Backchecks for new hires. Working closely with the Toronto recruitment team to align on a consistent recruitment process.
  • Proactively identifies employee trends or issues and advises managers on appropriate actions and solutions. Creates positive employee relations by executing on HR strategy and addressing performance management and employee issues. Escalating complex issues to HR Director and Senior HR Manager where needed.
  • Partner with people managers on the performance management process including education in goal setting, setting expectations and measuring and maintaining accountability.
  • Deliver training needs as identified (such as Employment Legislation updates, Performance Management, Recruitment and various workshops as applicable).
  • Supporting the H&S team with all Health & Safety/First Aid documentation, quarterly checks, training and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Upon request, obtain letters of employment from payroll department for employees in support of third-party requests (i.e., mortgage applications, loan applications, immigration paperwork, etc.)
  • Assist in other projects/duties, as assigned.

What skills and qualifications do you need?

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resources (CHRL designation a definite asset).
  • Excellent knowledge of local labour laws and ability to interpret, articulate and apply related legislation.
  • Strong problem solver and negotiator which is an asset to resolving complex employee relation cases.
  • Excellent follow up skills and ability to build solid collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to handle conflict in a calm and professional manner.
  • A change management champion who can successfully manage HR transformations as well as employee resistance to change.
  • Demonstrates well-developed business acumen and understands how to implement/manage change.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, managing conflicting priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Strong leadership skills to coach and mentor employees as well as counsel managers at all levels.
